Anhydrous Ammonia (NH₃) is a colorless liquid compressed gas.  The vapor is lighter than air with an extremely pungent odor.  Refrigeration Grade Anhydrous Ammonia is manufactured and distributed to the following specifications:

Anhydrous Ammonia liquid and vapor are strong irritants to the skin, eyes, mucous membranes and respiratory system. Direct exposure will cause serious injury and cause possible death.  When handling ammonia, proper PPE gear must be worn at all times.  Personnel handling ammonia shall be fully trained in areas of properties of ammonia, safe handling techniques, safety equipment, first aid, and emergency procedures.  Refer to SDS for more handling and safety information.
